A little about me

Hi, I’m Aggie, Founder of Embodied Voice Melbourne.

I am a Melbourne-based singing teacher, performer, vocal coach, Greek music lover + eternal truth seeker

my mission

I am on a mission to help people get out their own way and express (and accept) themselves fully and freely.

My passion is to continue to share my unique expression with the world and to support and inspire more and more people to do the same.  I want to make as many people as I can feel great about themselves through my work.

“I see the beauty in all of my students. I want you to see it too.”

singing was my first love

From a very early age, singing was simply in my bones. As the saying goes, I was singing before I could talk.

Born in Toronto, Canada, I moved to the vibrant city of Melbourne when I was 5 years old and singing was a part of life.

As a young girl, I’d spend hours in my room singing and fantasizing about performing on a big stage one day. I would record myself singing and put on endless shows and performances at family celebrations and gatherings.

My siblings and I would literally spend months choreographing our singing and dancing routines for our annual family Christmas concert in our backyard. They are some of my fondest childhood memories.

And although I decided to study the serious pursuit of engineering (which I hated!), my love of singing won out in the end

After my first singing lesson, I was completely hooked. I practiced every day, rain, hail or shine. Complete and utter dedication!

And from my first ever gig in the now hip Melbourne suburb of Northcote, a brief (but super fun!) stint in a girl band and regular appearances on the wedding and corporate circuit, I made some incredible contacts in the industry along the way and just knew I was in the right place.

Even though that first performance was terrifying, it also felt like the most natural thing in the world. The more I showed up on stage and sang, the more I built my confidence and developed my own unique style.

Throughout my career, I’ve dabbled in songwriting and collaborated with some wonderful and talented producers and songwriters. This led to session work, recording backing and lead vocal tracks and meeting wonderful musicians.

And I absolutely love honoring my heritage by performing Greek music.

From the first Greek song I sang and performed in public, I knew that this was an important part of my soul’s journey, like a missing piece to my puzzle. (I think it was inevitable that I’d become a Greek singer as my name in Greek (Agapi) means Love.)

In addition to private singing lessons and coaching, I still perform regularly in my own band, and with a range of awesome musicians, in venues and events throughout Melbourne, including the State Rose Garden Show, Crown Casino, the Lonsdale Street Greek Festival and a host of other private and council events throughout the year. It gives me such a kick to sing my heart out and share the gift of music with an audience.

for me, it’s all about the journey

I love to roam the world and I have always followed my dreams in order to live my truth.

In Hawaii, I immersed myself in the enchanting Aloha spirit when I performed with female buskers on the vibrant and bustling Kalakalua Avenue at Waikiki Beach.

In Crete, I serenaded the locals at one of my favorite restaurants and bars.

In Toronto, I performed jazz standards onstage at an outdoor concert with my cousin (a vocalist and pianist) – that was such a buzz!

In every place I visited around the world, music and singing have been the key to my happiness.

why I do what I do

The greatest gift of being a singing teacher is that I get to help you embody and express your essence through your voice.

In life (and with music), it is so easy to let self-doubt creep in. Being authentic and connecting with your essence and soul is challenging.

I love being able to help my students step away from the comparisons and appreciate what they already have. I support you to find songs, styles and genres that bring out the best in you.

how I want you to feel

I want you to feel at home with me when we sing together. I work hard to create a supportive space where you feel comfortable just being yourself. I love tapping into how you feel so I can help you make the most of your beautiful voice and our time together.

Above all, I want you to feel happy and free when you sing. I want you to feel like singing brings out the truest version of you.

other things I love

  • I’m passionate about health, wellbeing and being the best version of ourselves we can be.
  • I’m fascinated by humans and what makes us special: our struggles, our desires, our true potential.
  • Family means everything to me – I adore my nieces and nephews and I am lucky to have 7 little best friends.
  • Every performance is a highlight – it’s the connection you make with the audience, but more importantly – the connection you make with yourself.

“As long as we live, there is never enough singing.”

Martin Luther

What I believe

Life is about being curious and willing to dive in

Whether it is singing or exploring the world, I always want to keep growing and expanding. There are moments of magic and buckets of inspiration to be found in those places outside of our comfort zone.

I believe in helping you get out of your own way

My job is to help you kick those doubts to the curb, master your presence and trust in yourself and your voice. I want you to let your unique voice shine through, without fear or judgment.

I want you to focus on being you

So often, we have an idea of what makes a great singer or artist: Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone. We measure ourselves against celebrity status and lofty ideals. I am all for dreaming big but sometimes ideas, comparisons, and judgments can get in the way of expressing ourselves freely. I want you to be you! That’s way more interesting than trying to be someone else.
